Established in 1921, the Junior League of Hartford has a long tradition of making a difference. Throughout our history, we have developed vibrant community service projects, independently and in collaboration with other organizations. While our projects vary, one thing remains the same: the Junior League continues to identify unmet needs in the community and develop programs to fill those needs.
While our community projects are a vital part of what we do, our mission is three-fold and sets us apart from other organizations: we promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve communities. The Junior League makes a positive and lasting impact in the community through our model programs, but our foundation lies in training women to be influential leaders far beyond our own organization.
We are an all-volunteer force, empowering members to develop new skills, become civic leaders and build rewarding relationships with other like-minded, dynamic women. In addition to the work we do within our organization, our members use the skills we gain through the Junior League to serve non-profit organizations throughout Greater Hartford and beyond, creating a ripple effect, building social capital and promoting civic engagement. Our community is a better place due to the commitment and countless volunteer hours we spend enriching the lives of others. I encourage you to consider joining our organization.
While our work enriches our community, we also rely on our community. Our fund raisers generate financial support for our programs and simultaneously forward our mission through hands-on training and volunteer engagement. As an example, the Clothes Horse, the Junior League of Hartford’s premier thrift shop, serves the community by providing clothing vouchers, employment skills training, and community support to those in need, while also generating proceeds to sustain our organization.
I encourage you to explore our website, volunteer with our projects, donate to our programs, and speak with our members to learn more about the Junior League of Hartford and the mission we proudly serve every day.
Sincerely,

Carolyn Van Newkirk Hoffman
Junior League of Hartford
President 2010-2011
