President's Message

Welcome to the Junior League of Hartford! Since 1921, the Junior League has been making the GreaterNancy Woodward Hartford community a better place to live by promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. We are a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization whose purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Hartford is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, AJLI.

This year begins the second phase of our New Project Development process, which you can read more about here. Our new area of impact is Empowering Women and Girls to Overcome Obstacles. Throughout the year, members will be hearing from local nonprofits that are currently addressing this topic and as a League, we will assess how best to collaborate with other nonprofits in a new and innovative approach. A community impact program must create opportunities for the League to educate our members about the issues, develop meaningful volunteer and training opportunities, and create measurable, meaningful impact for the population we intend to serve through professional collaboration with local nonprofits.

Along with the outreach and assessment, the League will be working with agencies that support the needs of women and girls and we will participate in single-day volunteer opportunities. This hands-on-learning will be organized by the Community Outreach Community.

The Junior League is able to accomplish all that we do through the support generated by our fundraisers. Our longest-standing fundraiser, the Clothes Horse on Park Road, has gone through a refresh. We invite you to follow all of the exciting developments and fun ways to shop at our thrift store on the Clothes Horse blog at clotheshorsethrift.blogspot.com or on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/ClothesHorseWestHartford for the latest happenings.

In addition to positively impacting the community, the League has always offered opportunities to create lifelong friendships while working alongside other women who actively seek ways to become more engaged in their community. These are the women who become the community and civic leaders of tomorrow. I invite you to explore our website and learn more about the League and become a member, partner agency, or supporter of the JLH. The Junior League of Hartford…Women Building Better Communities.

Sincerely,

Nancy Woodward
