Situated in the West End of Hartford, this year's house is the 7,000 square foot private residence of Susie and Ross Hatch located at 219 Kenyon Street and features nearly 30 spaces that will be decorated. The 2009 Decorator Show House will be open to the public in May 2-24, 2009. "The Decorator Show House allows us an opportunity to celebrate the wide range of talent and expertise from our region's interior decorators and landscape artists, and invite the community to view a beautiful home while learning more about the Junior League of Hartford," said Co-Chair Jodie Liddy, a 13-year member of the Junior League of Hartford and Past President. "The proceeds from Show House enable the League to continue serving the community and ensuring a healthy and proactive organization." Every three years the Junior League of Hartford takes over a unique home or estate in the Greater Hartford area, selects regional decorators to decorate the interior and grounds, and sells tickets to the public for viewing of the completed house. The Junior League of Hartford has held 10 Decorator Show Houses over a 30-year span, and raised more than $1.25 million for its programs and projects. The Decorator Show House is the League's largest fundraiser. All proceeds from the Show House are used to fund its community projects and grants, and to support the Junior League of Hartford mission of "promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers." "As co-chairs of this long-standing Junior League of Hartford event, we are looking forward to the Greater Hartford communities coming together to support talented interior decorators, touring a beautiful house, and learning about the purpose and mission of the Junior League of Hartford and its positive impact on our community for more than 85 years," said Vanessa Thomas. The Junior League of Hartford, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Since 1921, the Junior League of Hartford has been committed to making a difference in the greater Hartford community by assessing and identifying community needs, and then developing either direct programs or collaborations with other organizations and agencies to help meet those needs.
